The Eagle’s Flight workshop was an activity based on developing our planning and preparation skills. The Workshop was based on a game “the search for the lost dutchman goldmine”. The game is based on a true story of a mysterious goldmine in Arizona. In the game, we had to use planning and strategy skills. From the beginning, we had to pick a route to take and stick with it. Some teams ran into trouble In the game When they didn’t plan in advance and were left without enough resources to get back from the goldmine.
This type of game really helps show your weakness and correct it. The majority of the game was dependent on your tactics decided before even starting. Some teams decided to be patient, stay in the starting area and collect info. This greatly helped these teams. Other teams decided to take the shortest route and attempt to spend as many days as possible in the goldmine. In the end, teams that were given the exact same value of resources and the same task ended up with completely different outcomes.
After the game, we analyzed our strategy and how we played the game. Some teams made bad choices, didn’t prepare in the beginning and ended up having to trade gold worth $2500 for gold worth $30. During the analysis, our host Ger expressed the importance of planning early on and sticking to the plan. All of this advice can be directly related to exams and projects. Procrastination is our worst enemy. Without preparation, we increase our chance of failure.
Overall I really enjoyed the workshop the game was very fun and entertaining and the analysis afterward thought us the importance of working in collaboration and preparation.
